Charleston Towne Landing State Historic Site,
founded in 1670, is the site of the state's first permanent British
settlement. Reconstruction has been made to recreate the atmosphere of the
period. A model of a 17th-century trading vessel and pre-Civil War
Plantation House are available for touring.

The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon was built as the Exchange and
Court House for Charles Towne by the British in 1771. In the Great Hall,
South Carolina ratified the Constitution. In the cellar, where prominent
Patriots were imprisoned by the British, guides relate interesting facts
and events about early Charles Towne and life there.

Charleston Harbor Tours
The paddle-wheeler, Carolina Belle, takes guests on a 70-minute, narrated
cruise of Charleston Harbor. The cruise features the sights of forts:
Sumter, Moultrie and Johnson, minesweepers, nuclear-powered submarines,
port facilities, and a former quarantine station. Tours leave from
Charleston Maritime Center, 10 Wharfside St.
