Historical Las Vegas doesn’t have much to offer in the way of historical sites. Due to their quest for new and bigger they have continually torn down buildings in their wake. Add to that fires and floods, and there are only a couple of places that even qualify: Golden Gate Casino Originally called Hotel Nevada, this hotel is the oldest still in operation. This 106 room opened in 1906 at the site of the now named “Fremont Street Experience”. The hotel can’t compare in amenities to its newer counterparts, but it definitely has charm.

Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park Before there was the Strip, there were the Mormons. Settling in 1855, the Mormons made their home where the water flowed freely and the grasses were plentiful for grazing. They only lived there 2 years before returning to Utah, but evidence of how life was back then can still be found.

Railroad Cottages During the railroad boom at the beginning of the 1900s the workers needed a place to stay and 64 Craftsman-style cottages were built to accommodate them. Sadly most have been demolished or turned into offices. Of the few that remain, 1 is in a museum, 3 were moved to Las Vegas Springs Preserve, and only 1 remains on the original site.
