Parks & Recreation Golden Gate Park - Home to over one million trees, San Francisco's Golden Gate Park also boasts nine lakes, several fly casting pools, and a lily pond. Golden Gate Park is San Francisco's largest park, covering 1013 acres, and is about 3 miles long and 1/2 mile wide. It is even bigger than New York's Central Park! San Francisco Botanical Garden - Open daily, 365 days a year, the San Francisco Botanical Garden is located within Golden Gate Park, is free to the public and features a "World of Gardens," excellent horticulture library, bookstore, and educational programs. Free guided walks are given daily at 1:30pm. Camp Mather - Located just 15 miles from the entrance to Yosemite National Park, in the High Sierras, Camp Mather is home to the increasingly popular rustic cabins where you have to apply as early as February to compete in the very competitive selection process. Featuring activities for all age groups, Camp Mather has something for everyone. Some activities include: swimming, arts & crafts, softball, basketball, bike riding, sack races, as well as many others. San Francisco Marina Yacht Harbor - Located on the Northern Waterfront of San Francisco, the Marina is comprised of two harbors, the East Harbor and the West Harbor, with the Marina Green, a popular city park, located in between. There are 343 boat slips in the West Harbor area, as well as the Saint Francis and Golden Gate Yacht Clubs, and the Harbormaster's Building. The East Harbor area also has 343 boat slips, as well as the City Yacht boat sales, and some park land. |
