The San Francisco Zoo - Located on Sloat Boulevard at the Great Highway (47th Avenue); next to the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco, the San Francisco Zoo boasts over 250 animal species. New in May, 2004, they recently added a lush, 3-acre African Savanna exhibit, featuring giraffe, zebra, kuda, ostrich and other native African wildlife. The New Zoo is designed with interaction and activity in mind and hopes that it will lead to conservation. The new conservation zoo features: a recreation area where people can relax and have fun, a center for wildlife that provides exemplary care for rare and endangered species, a community organization serving the people of the Bay Area, an education center providing formal and informal learning programs for children and adults, a park and nature center showcasing native plants and gardens, and a bird sanctuary and bird watchers paradise.
